Are you interested in discovering understudied plant diversity? Improving the level of knowledge of climber diversity is essential in helping to accurately understand the overall structure and composition of biodiversity in the region and will underpin effective conservation efforts.
More details
Using Kew’s unparalleled library and herbarium collections and under the guidance of Kew’s specialists, you will collate the information needed to produce a publishable checklist and construct a morphological trait matrix of the climbers of South-East Asia. From this, you will not only gain an understanding of the South-East Asian flora in general, but also of what features are common across climbing groups and how they correlate with variables such as environment and rarity. Your work will be an essential first step towards a wider Kew project on climbing plant megadiversity and conservation in South-East Asia, which will result in further publications.
The applicant must currently be studying a degree in a relevant discipline and have existing knowledge of plant morphological terminology, an understanding of taxonomic classification and a passion for biodiversity science.
Please state your education dates in your application.
