We are seeking a highly motivated botanist to join the dynamic research programme of the Africa Team in Kew’s Identification and Naming Department. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a permanent position in herbarium taxonomy.
Kew is the world’s leading botanic gardens, at the forefront of plant and fungal science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major visitor attraction.
We want a world where plants and fungi are understood, valued and conserved – because our lives depend on them.
We use the power of our science and the rich diversity of our gardens and collections to provide knowledge, inspiration and understanding of why plants and fungi matter to everyone.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in publishing high quality taxonomic and systematic research within a tropical African context.
Applicants with expertise in species-rich plant groups in Africa for which we need additional support would be particularly welcome, notably in the Asterales, Malpighiales and Malvales. A generalist knowledge of the African flora and its biogeography, and associated plant identification skills, would also be an advantage.
Kew’s Africa team conducts a range of research into plant diversity and distribution in tropical Africa, with a particular focus on applying our taxonomic research and field surveys to identifying species and sites of high conservation concern through Kew’s Tropical Important Plant Areas programme.
The salary will be £32,000 - £34,933 per annum, depending on skills and experience
Our fantastic benefits package includes opportunities for continuous learning, a generous annual leave entitlement, flexible working to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance, an Employee Assistance Programme and other wellbeing support such as cycle to work scheme and discounted gym membership.
