This is an exciting opportunity to lead on Pre-Award administration at RBG Kew working on a portfolio of research and knowledge exchange funding bids and contract research. We are looking for a professional and proactive individual to provide excellent, customer- focussed pre-award research support managing the lifecycle from preparation through to submission of high-quality funding proposals. With substantial experience of working in a research support and/or finance role, you will be an excellent and confident communicator with strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to work calmly and effectively at pace, conveying enthusiasm and energy around project goals.

Educated to degree level (or equivalent professional experience) with a proven track record in a similar role, our ideal candidate will be a team player who can manage conflicting priorities and use their own initiative to effectively meet the requirements of the role. The ability to understand and interpret funder requirements, listen and liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders and provide constructive feedback to research applicants are all essential to be effective in this role.
You will provide horizon scanning, funder intelligence and specialist funding advice to our researchers who have a broad range of bid writing experience. You will ensure operational excellence and consistency of practice to drive research bids of high quality and scale crossing disciplinary boundaries and responding to challenge-led strategies from Government, funders and policy makers.
You will be key to ensuring the highest standards are met with implementation of due diligence, ethical review and risk assessments. You will be able to work closely and effectively with bid teams to develop pre-award budgets in line with fEC and Trac methodologies.
You will be able to manage your own continuous professional development, internal collaborations and external networks in order to contribute to service quality, research excellence and innovation including participating in relevant professional networks and disseminating information to academic and professional services staff through verbal and written communications and delivering workshops.
You will have a proactive, resilient and solution-focussed approach to work with a high level of integrity and discretion, and a willingness to adopt and support change, effectively implementing new ways of working as appropriate.

This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

The salary for this position is £32,900 - £36,505 per annum, depending on skills and experience [Band C]
