This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join our Galleries and Exhibitions team in the role of Galleries and Exhibitions Assistant at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art and Marianne North Gallery at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art opened in April 2008 and has proven to be a highly successful addition to Kew’s visitor offering, welcoming over 2million visitors. The Marianne North Gallery reopened in 2010 after a complete refurbishment of the building and these two galleries are linked and offer a unique experience at Kew.
You will assist the Gallery Operations Manager in all aspects of the operational running of these 2 fast paced and dynamic galleries, including; day to day operations, gallery invigilating, exhibition install and de-install, retail and volunteer supervision This role will take the lead with Spectrum standard conservation practices in the Galleries as well as, assisting with the Marrianne North annual deep clean.
An Enhanced DBS Check is required for this role.

With a confident and customer orientated approach you will ensure the provision of a high-quality front of house service as well as stewarding the exhibition spaces to keep them secure, safe, well maintained and in a suitable condition for visitors at all times. A team player, you will be educated to degree level or above (equivalent work experience/volunteering will also be considered), in a subject area relevant to Heritage, Art and Museums, with proven experience of providing a customer-focused service. Knowledge of Exhibition installation, H&S best practice and working with volunteers would be in an advantage. You are Self-motivated with excellent communication, interpersonal and IT skills and you will demonstrate a flexible, engaging, can do and positive attitude and approach to your work.

Please note this position is annualised hours and includes evening and regular weekend work and is based onsite.

The salary for this position is £28,550 per annum [Band B]
